The Bloomington Scholastic Chess Open is the annual tournament for the University Chess Club, a non-profit organization for young chess enthusiasts who are interested in competitive chess and skill building. Our goal is to promote chess play among school age children in a friendly and stimulating environment. In addition to chess skills, we also emphasize good citizenship, sportsmanship and leadership. Activities for meetings include lessons taught by experienced local and out-of-town chess coaches, competitive chess ladder games and games with skilled guest players from the Bloomington chess community.
